What is a Medical Marijuana card?

An Ohio medical marijuana card is simply the patient identification card issued by the State Board of Pharmacy once you've been registered as a medical marijuana patient in the state of Ohio. With your card in hand, you'll have all of the legal rights and benefits granted to patients under the State's medical marijuana laws. An Ohio medical marijuana card provides you with the following benefits:

  • Access to Ohio Medical Marijuana Dispensaries
  • Legal Protection With Your Ohio Medical Marijuana Card

Who qualifies for a medical marijuana card?

  • Individuals 18 years of age or older
  • Patients under 18 years of age must assign a caregiver who is at least 21 years of age.
  • Have a current diagnosis of a qualifying condition (see below)
  • Be an Ohio resident with proof of residency
  • Meet with a Certified Ohio Marijuana Doctor

What medical conditions qualify?

Under Ohio law, qualifying medical conditions include all of the following: AIDS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, cachexia, cancer, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, Crohn’s disease, epilepsy or another seizure disorder, fibromyalgia, glaucoma, hepatitis C, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, pain that is either chronic and severe or intractable, Parkinson’s disease, positive status for HIV, post-traumatic stress disorder, sickle cell anemia, spinal cord disease or injury, Tourette syndrome, traumatic brain injury, and ulcerative colitis.

In February 2021, the State Medical Board of Ohio determined the following conditions are considered covered by an existing qualifying condition: arthritis chronic migraines and complex region pain syndrome. These conditions were determined to be covered by pain that is either chronic or intractable.
